Here’s a guide on how to get to Pattaya from Bangkok with info on reliable taxi services, taxi prices and detailed bus information.
If you’re in a hurry, and you probably are because you’re going to Pattaya, the best way to get there from Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok is by taxi and takes about 1.5 hours. If you’re not in such a hurry then you can easily get the bus and it takes about 2 hours to get there. The bus has limited hours and there’s more info below under How To Get A Bus From Bangkok to Pattaya. Both methods are pretty simple and very widely used. If you arrive in Bangkok via Don Mueang international airport, there are many taxi services there as well or you can get a shuttle to Suvarnabhumi Airport if you want to get the bus.
How To Get A Taxi To Pattaya From Bangkok
Personally I prefer taxi as it is by far the least hassle free and it will take you straight to your hotel. You should always pay after arriving at your destination.
There are expressway toll booths along the way and these should be included in your negotiated price. Many hotels in Pattaya will offer an airport pick up service but at a higher rate than you will find by pre booking or finding a taxi after you arrive in Bangkok.
It is highly recommended to have your hotel information such as address and phone number to show to your driver and the same upon returning to your hotel in Bangkok because unless it is an extremely popular hotel, they most likely will not know where it is.
Taxi drivers will often call your hotel and get directions in Thai so a phone number at least is crucial. It also helps if you can use google maps on your phone. I’ve had a few taxi drivers where this really helped. For info on getting your phone set up in Thailand at the airport you can check out here Mobile Phones And WiFi In Thailand.
You can find a taxi once you’re at the airport but there are many taxi companies that you can pre-book your trip to Pattaya with.
Getting a regular taxi when you arrive at the airport is usually more expensive than pre-booking. To do so just follow the signs to the ground floor and there is a taxi stand outside where you will be given a number. Your taxi will pull into the parking stall with your assigned number.
Remember to have your hotel name and address available for the driver to see (preferably in Thai). Most drivers will be able to find it from Google Maps on your smartphone but it’s always a good idea to have your hotel’s phone number handy. Driver’s will often want to call your hotel for directions in Thai if they don’t know or are not sure where it is.
Pre-booking your trip is a much preferred and you will get a better price. If you prefer to pre book your trip or just like to have a general idea of how much it should cost you, here are a couple of examples with their current rates – www.pattaya-taxiservice.com or www.pattaya-express.com
How To Get A Bus To Pattaya From Bangkok
Taking a bus to Pattaya is much more economical and is actually quite convenient ,although depending on the time of year you may have a bit of a wait. The buses are air-conditioned and are quite comfortable. If you prefer to take a bus you can check out detailed information here – busonlineticket. This site has excellent information about bus travel throughout Thailand.
There are two different bus services that run from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Pattaya although they run from the same counter. The bus counter is found on floor 1 of the airport right next to door number 8. The door numbers are clearly marked above the doors. The second one is Bell Travel Service.
The difference with Bell is that they will charge about 100 thai baht more per person but there will be a minivan waiting in Pattaya to take you directly to your hotel. Upon arriving in Pattaya the minivans will be lined up and on the windshields will be clearly written what hotel they are going to.
Just simply get into the minivan with your hotel on it and you’re off! This is the preferred method of getting a bus to Pattaya for many because unless you are packed very lightly and can get a motorbike taxi to your hotel, there are not taxis lined up and waiting for arrivals at the bus station in Pattaya.
There are although, baht buses (songtheaws) lined up at the bus depot in Pattaya, but unless you know their routes and the location of your hotel they can be difficult to navigate. Another option is to wait for a taxi to drop a fare off and grab it. You could be waiting for maybe up to 30 minutes give or take.
